Cookie policy

Every key this site writes to your browser, what it is for, and how long it stays. Nothing here is guesswork: the list is taken from the site's own code.

Change your choice

Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it. This button reopens the same panel you saw when you first arrived, with your current choice already selected.

The same control sits in the footer of every page on this site, under "Legal". If you switch analytics off, the stored analytics identifier and event log are deleted straight away.

This site does not use cookies

That is not a figure of speech. No page on this site sets an HTTP cookie, and there are no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels and no third-party analytics products anywhere in it.

What the site does use is your browser's local storage, which does much the same job: it keeps small pieces of data on your device between visits. The law treats storing or reading information on your device the same way whether it is a cookie or not, so this page lists all of it and the consent rules apply to all of it.

Everything the site writes has a name beginning ffar_ or ffar-, which makes it easy to find in your browser’s developer tools if you want to look.

The site no longer writes ffar_session or ffar_mockUsers, which an earlier sign-in preview used. If your browser still holds them, the site deletes them on your next visit.

The two categories

Essential. Storage without which the site cannot do what you have asked it to do: stay signed in, remember your place in a quiz, remember your cookie choice. This category cannot be switched off, because switching it off would mean the feature simply does not work. It is not used to track you across sites and it never leaves your device.

Analytics. Storage used to understand how the site is used. It is off by default and nothing in it is created, read or written unless you turn it on. On this site, the analytics data also stays on your device and is never transmitted anywhere; we gate it behind consent regardless, because it is not necessary to deliver the service.

There is no marketing or personalisation category, because the site has nothing of the kind to put in it.

Essential storage

Essential browser storage keys, their purpose, type and duration
KeyPurposeTypeDuration
ffar_quizbank_<mode>_<document> Your progress through one practice or exam set: the current question, your answers, which questions you flagged, and your result once you finish. Local storage (first party) Until you clear this site's data, or start that same set again.
ffar_video_progress_<video id> Where you got to in a video, the percentage watched, and whether you finished it, so playback can resume. Local storage (first party) Until you clear this site's data.
ffar_storage_version Records which version of the storage format your browser holds, so data written by an older version can be upgraded rather than lost. Local storage (first party) Until you clear this site's data.
ffar_consent Your cookie choice: which categories you accepted, when, and the version of the categories you were shown. Without it we would have to ask you on every page. Local storage (first party) Until you change your choice or clear this site's data. If we change the categories, the version stamp no longer matches and you will be asked again.
firebaseLocalStorageDb Your sign-in session, kept by Firebase Authentication so that you stay signed in between pages and visits. It is only written when you sign in. IndexedDB (first party) Until you sign out or clear this site's data.
ffar-course-<module> Your progress through one course module: which lessons you have visited and your answers to their checks. Local storage (first party) Until you clear this site’s data.
ffar-simulator-history Your scores by document for your last 20 exam simulator papers, which the readiness table uses. Local storage (first party) Until you clear this site’s data; only the last 20 papers are kept.
ffar-theme Whether you chose the dark or light theme. Local storage (first party) Until you clear this site’s data.

Analytics storage: only with your consent

Neither key below exists in your browser unless you have turned analytics on. Both are deleted the moment you turn it off.

Analytics browser storage keys, their purpose, type and duration
KeyPurposeTypeDuration
ffar_user_id A random identifier that ties the analytics events recorded in this browser together. It is generated on your device, is not linked to your account or your email address, and is never transmitted. Local storage (first party) Until you withdraw consent or clear this site's data. It has no expiry of its own.
ffar_analytics_events The event log itself: page views, clicks, form interactions (the values you type are replaced with a placeholder), video and quiz activity, session start and end, and page-load timings, each with a timestamp and the page address. Local storage (first party) Pruned to the most recent 90 days each time new events are written, and deleted outright when you withdraw consent.

Third parties your browser contacts

These do not store anything on your device through this site, but your browser does request files from them, and any such request discloses your IP address, the page you are on and your user-agent string. They load on every page, so they are part of delivering the site rather than something you can switch off here.

  • www.gstatic.com: Google’s Firebase code, which lets the site know whether you are signed in. The typefaces and icons are served from this site itself.

The site itself is hosted on Google's Firebase Hosting, which logs requests, including your IP address. The privacy policy covers that in full.

How consent works here

On your first visit a panel appears at the bottom of the page with two equally prominent buttons, Accept all and Reject all, and a Choose option that opens the per-category switches. Rejecting takes exactly one click, the same as accepting.

Nothing in the analytics category runs before you choose. If you close the panel without choosing, or press Escape, no choice is stored, analytics stays off, and the panel returns on your next visit.

Your choice is recorded in ffar_consent together with a version stamp. If we ever add or change a category, that stamp will no longer match and the panel will ask you again rather than carrying an old answer over to a new question.

If your browser blocks storage (private or incognito windows often do), the choice cannot be remembered. It still applies for the rest of that visit, and you will be asked again next time.

Clearing everything yourself

The preferences control above handles the analytics category. To remove the rest, including your preview account and your quiz progress, use your browser's own site-data controls: in most browsers this is under Settings, then Privacy, then cookies and site data, where you can search for this site and delete what it holds. Your browser's developer tools will also let you inspect and delete individual ffar_ keys.

Clearing essential storage signs you out of the preview account and discards your saved quiz and video progress. That is expected, not a fault.
